Tony D'Amato is a DJ, producer and bassist from Wilmington, Delaware. His musical background is steeped in the classic soul and Motown of has father's music collection. He discovered jazz in middle school and spent the next five years buying Blue Note albums, learning Real Book tunes and transcribing solos. He has performed with numerous ensembles over the last decade, most notably as the bassist for Spontaneous Underground, a Delaware-based improvisational funk juggernaut with Heavy Pets drummer Jamie Newitt. He was a conceptual force for the fabled Pterodactyl Lounge, a long-running series of after-hours parties in Newark, Delaware. More recently, Tony has immersed himself in electronic music and studio production. His sound, rooted in Chicago house and Detroit techno, reflects an affinity for modern jazz, vintage soul, deep grooves and complex rhythms. As a DJ, he is equally comfortable throwing down old-school funk and disco jams, raw house cuts, or banging techno beats.
