Artist Lineup - Spontaneous Underground

Spontaneous Underground

Described as progressive jazz meets house and disco (or MMW meets New Deal), long time friends Jimmy Dunstan (keyboards), Tony D’amato (bass), and Jamie Newitt (drums)  are excited as all hell to play Pet Zoo 3.  Growing out of the Newark/University of Delaware scene, what began as a one night stand instantly transformed into a two and a half year gig playing throughout the Delaware and Philadelphia region including highlights such as Clifford Brown Jazz Fest and Earth Dance 2006.

All 3 friends are well versed in the language of improvisation which is hallmark to the Spontaneous Underground, or “SPUN”, experience and is also the reason that audiences find them so intriguing and wanting more.  As the relationship and depth of the band expanded so did their vision.  Nothing represents this idea more than the epic 6-hour plus shows that frequently graced the infamous “Pterodactyl Lounge” parties.  There were more than a baker’s dozen of these, all very special and unique in their own right, and for all who were there, you know just how special these occasions truly were.

In 2007 keyboardist Jimmy Dunstan, aka “Cranny” and formally known as “Crandle Cunningham”, decided to pursue dreams of being a chiropractor which lead to a spontaneous offshoot and replacement featuring Shawn Qaissaunee on guitar.  Shortly after this project, drummer Jamie Newitt was asked to join up with rising stars and long time friends the Heavy Pets (ever heard of them?).  It’s obvious that he took the job and the original 3 band members still throw reunion parties each year around the holidays.

At this point all 3 members are still highly active in the music community and have progressed individually into their own specialties.  Tony D is now an upcoming house/techno/electronic DJ spinning heads up and down the East Coast while maintaining his chops on his P-bass.  Jimmy D has become a full blown chiropractor and still plays regularly in attempt to melt faces off as many individuals as possible. That brings us to Jamie. Can’t say enough about this bro, his joining up with the Pets has put his level of playing along with the Pets themselves above and beyond what the mind has considered possible.

Pet Zoo 3 promises to be a rager so come get SPUN with Spontaneous during the day, you won’t regret it.
